Channels do not switch when using footswitch or front panel pushbuttons

The obvious place to check first is the footswitch, though this does not explain the lack of operation through the pushbuittons with the footswtich disconnected, damage to the footswitch cable is always worth checking out.
Channel switching problems are almost always due to a failure of a transistor on the amps main circuit board. If you don't know how to check for such problems, this problem should be fixed by a qualified tech. An authorized service center for Marshall Amps is the place to go, but always seek out one with an amp tech on site.

Cooling Fan is making a noise

Most MG Series Amps have a cooling fan that is designed to keep the power output stage of the amp cool during use. It is essential that the fan remains in working condition - Without it, the power amp can burn out.
The fan is always on, regardless of the power heatsink temperature and should be running smoothly with a quiet consistent sound. When you're cooling fan is rattling or making inconsistent noises, it's time to replace it.
The fan is not too hard to replace for most people with some electrical skills - It is simply secured with four screws to the chassis and heatsink, and connected to the main amp circuit board via a cable with a two contact connector. For those not familiar with electrical repair, seek out a Marshall Amp tech.
