We frequently rewind guitar pickups for clients. This is especially important for vintage guitars requiring refurbishment. Shrinkage can occur as pickups age and an electric guitar pick-up winding can inexplicably go open circuit without warning. Our guitar pickup rewinds are guided by hand and scatterwound to achieve balance & authenticity.
1970's Strat guitar
The example pickup to the left was removed from a 1977 Fender Stratocaster. The guitar was in our shop for a refret, repair and setup. We removed the broken coils from the pickup and rewound it, using the traditional scatterwound technique. The result was a neck pickup with a coil winding that balances well with the guitars existing pickups, and a guitar that retains its vintage vibe.
1960's Guild Pickup
We had a 1960's hollow body Guild in for refret & refurbish. The pickup was found to be open circuit & damaged. We stripped the pickup down and rewound the P-90 style coil.
The pickup winding was then wax potted and re-built. The two bar magnets powering the pickup were strong enough not to need re-magnetization. Magnets on older pickups may lose their magnetic strength over time, causing the sound to be thin and weak. Re-magnetization can bring them back to life and restore original sound.
The result was a sweet sounding p-90 style pickup.
Vintage single coil
Oh man! What a mess! This vintage single coil was all but destroyed. A client from South Carolina sent us this in desperate need of help.
Wound with very thin 43 gage wire, this single-coil pickup was re-wound, potted with a wax potting, cleaned and completely re-assembled.
